Spreading Christmas cheer with WaterSafe’s 12 Days of Christmas plumbing tips

As we get set to reveal our 12 days of Christmas tips, WaterSafe’s Communications Consultant Stephanie Ellis reveals the inspiration behind the campaign.

This year, we’ve put a unique twist on the classic Christmas carol “The 12 Days of Christmas” to share daily plumbing tips that will help residents keep their home safe and water-efficient throughout the holidays.

Each day, we’ll share a new piece of advice, ensuring your plumbing is in top shape while you enjoy the festive cheer.

I wanted to combine the joy of the festive season with practical tips that can help businesses and residents.

Water-related disasters, such as frozen or burst pipes, can cause chaos at any time of year – but particularly over the festive season when many are hosting friends and family.

Our 12 Days of Christmas posts are designed to be both informative and fun, putting a light-hearted twist on this Christmas classic to share our top tips to protect your home from common winter plumbing issues.

We’ve shared all these tips, and more, through our social media channels, website and via the press this year, but it never hurts to have a reminder – so everything is here in one handy list.

It’s been written so you can even sing along to the original tune, if you so desire!

On the first day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Visit watersafe.org.uk

On the second day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Insulate water pipes

On the third day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Check for leaky loos

On the fourth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Find your stop tap

On the fifth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Isolate outside taps

On the sixth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Service your boiler

On the seventh day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Find an emergency plumber

On the eighth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Buy compliant products

On the ninth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Follow us on Facebook

On the tenth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Fix dripping taps

On the eleventh day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Take a shorter shower

On the twelfth day of Christmas, my plumber said to me: Share this advice with your neighbours.

And plumbers, you haven’t been forgotten. We’ve created your own version of the song with some of your most-common tools and plumbing tasks:

On the first day of Christmas, true love gave to me: A leaking toilet

On the second day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Two reels of lead-free solder

On the third day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Three pipe cutters

On the fourth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Four plungers plunging

On the fifth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Five plumbers’ wrenches

On the sixth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Six taps a-dripping

On the seventh day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Seven pipes-a-frozen

On the eighth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Eight washers sealing

On the ninth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Nine valves a-turning

On the tenth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Ten drains a-clearing

On the eleventh day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Eleven radiators heating

On the twelfth day of Christmas, true love gave to me: Twelve stop taps stopping.

Whether you’re working or relaxing this Christmas, or a bit of both, on behalf of everyone at WaterSafe we wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
