WaterSafe seeks new Independent Chair

WaterSafe, the UK’s leading independent body for approved plumbers and water professionals, is actively seeking a dynamic and strategic leader to take on the role of Independent Chair.

This is an exciting opportunity to guide the board of a well-established not-for-profit organisation dedicated to protecting public health by maintaining a national register. This vital service helps consumers and businesses find the nearest qualified contractor to help keep water supplies safe.

The successful candidate will bring significant board-level experience (10+ years), ideally as a Chair or Non-Executive Director, coupled with exceptional leadership, communication, and governance skills. A collaborative and inclusive approach, with the confidence to provide constructive challenge, is essential. Experience within regulated industries, membership bodies, or public services is highly desirable.

About the Role:

As Chair, you’ll lead a board of directors drawn from across the water and plumbing industry. Your leadership will help shape strategy, uphold standards, and ensure the organisation delivers on its mission to protect public health by helping consumers choose qualified installers, who have specific training to meet strict legal requirements.

You’ll act as a key ambassador for the organisation, bringing independent oversight, strategic direction, and support to a small but impactful operation to grow its influence and deliver its mission.

This part-time position requires a commitment of approximately 8 days per year, with meetings being predominantly held virtually, offering flexibility for the successful candidate. The role offers an annual remuneration of £2,900.

"This is a crucial leadership role for WaterSafe”, Director Julie Spinks commented, “The Independent Chair will play a vital part in ensuring we continue to champion the highest standards within the plumbing and water industry, ultimately protecting the health and wellbeing of communities across the UK. We are looking for a passionate and experienced individual to help us build on our success and further our mission."
